Installation [nCo Mod] - Installation Questions and Discussion
7.9 vs nco 7.6
first of all i'm new to the board, but so far it looks a lot better than some of the other nuke boards i've been using.
i'm runningi 7.9 patched, but i'm having a hard time finding mods that will work with it. I'm running the BlackW theme, I forgot where I got it from though, and I have both left, and right side columns on the entire site.
my question is would it benefit me to migrate to the nco 7.6 version, and if so how? also, can i use it with my already up and running db that was originally phpbb and I used the bb to nuke scripts to get where i'm at now.
i'm looking to add a quick response mod, and i'd like to incorporate a simple store into the site also. security would be a plus as well.
any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
I'll tell you 3 things and let you make your own determination.
1. The html editor built into 7.7-7.9 creates some huge security holes that even sentinel can't stop.
2. PHP-Nuke 7.6 which ultra is based on is the most widely used version of nuke. It's also the most stable.
3. 7.7-7.9 are no longer being supported by chatserv (he is the creator of the nuke patched series), which in all likelyhood means any future bugs and security issues will remain unpatched.
Sadly though there is no direct route back to 7.6 from 7.9 there is a downgrader for 7.7 and 7.8 it is available
here. I have used it to downgrade the mentioned versions rather sucessfully. I do not know if it will work on 7.9
Lastly, nCo ultra is for
NEW installs only.
so i'm pretty much screwed unless i want to start all over again.
i'm up for downgrading, but if i can't do it and preserve my users, and posts, and whatnot then it's pretty pointless for me.
if someone developed a downgrader for 7.9 then i'd do it. damn someone help me out.
it's either downgrade or go to vbulletin. anyone have any ideas?
