htaccess files disapearing
I am installing Nuke on a friends server (Windows) and when I rename the .htaccess, .staccess, etc..., they just disapear and I cannot get Sentinel to fully do what it was designed to do.
I know it is a server issue. What do I have to ask the Web Host in order to keep these files there on the server?
When I ask them to do it, they just tell me to change my ftp settings but it sounds like they have no clue on what they are doing.
The files probably are not disappearing, The attributes on the server are probably set for these types of files to be hidden.
As far as what to ask the host. Just describe the issue to them as you did here.
If I am not mistaken I think this has to do with a permissions issue. I had the same problem with a friends site I put up once in which I tried to chmod those files. I am pretty sure that once you upload these files the server itself since it is windows assigns it the permission it which it wants it to have. You cant chmod the permissions on Windows based servers. I am pretty sure that is what I came about to think the problem was but it has been so long since I put that site up really cant remember.
Well, What I find myself doing for these websites is adding them as admins on my temp site and setting up their .htaccess and .staccess files there. After passwords are set, I transfer the .htaccess and .staccess from mine to theirs. The file disappears but is really there and they can finally have admin access.
Bad thing is that if you drop a .htaccess file in the Nuke root, they will get the sentinel popup forever until a correct one is placed there over it and since there is nothing to delete, you must place a correct one over it or remove the entire directory and restart all over again in your new directory without the .htaccess.
I think you should take a look at
this post on ravens site.
