download protection

hey i am just wanting to know if there is a way to password only certain downloads. i have some that i want to add to my site but only want to allow certain people to them. or if i can just password like a category. thanks for all the help in advance Very Happy

This is assuming that you use Cpanel as your control panel. Login to cpanel click on Password Protect Directory choose the directory you want to protect. Type the password you want for that directory and give who ever you want the password and url to that directory.

ok so i can protect the directory...but if u put a link directly to the file in the downloads, it bypasses that.. is it supposed to?

If you give the link

this will be ignored by your downloads the directory is protected and not accessible by the public. But if your give your who ever you want access the link

they will have to log using the password you set before they can access and download anything from this directory. But if you try to link it on your site then yes your downloads will skip it since it is a protected directory and the public doesnt have access to it. There is a couple of other ways you can do this but I will not go into them as they are more complicated and would only confuse you.
