Having difficulty upgrading
Im currently running nuke 6.5
I am trying to upgrade. I have installed all the upgrade files into my root directory. When I run the files from my web browser per the instuctions, nothing happens.
What are you trying to upgrade too that is where I am lost. Are you trying to update to a newer version of php-nuke or you trying to patch your site. If you are trying to update php-nuke you must upload and run the upgrade file for each version till you get to the version you want. Example if you are on 6.5 and want to get to 7.5 you have to upload and run the upgrade for each file inbetween 6.5 and 7.5. And if you want to patch your site I am not sure that the patches cover 6.5 as it is an older version of php-nuke.
I am trying to upgrade my PHP nuke version.
I have all the upgrade files that should take me from version 6.5 - 7.9.
I loaded them all into my root directory. I started with the file that should take me from version 6.5-6.6, yet nothing happened.
First you must login as admin god.
then to do an upgrade you must upload phpnuke 7.9 overwriting 6.x or whatever you are upgrading from. You can safely delete the webmail(deleted from all newer version because of security concerns) and sections (outdated replaced by content module) modules
then you upload every updater from your current version of nuke to the one you are trying to get to.
In your case you must upload and run:
upgrade65-66.php
upgrade66-67.php
upgrade67-68.php
upgrade68-69.php
upgrade69-70.php
upgrade70-71.php
upgrade71-72.php
upgrade72-73.php
upgrade73-74.php
upgrade74-75.php
upgrade75-76.php
upgrade76-77.php
upgrade77-78.php
upgrade78-79.php
after you upload all these you must then call them from your web browser example:
http://yoursite.com/upgrade70-71.php
If you don't do all the steps I have mentioned, exactly how I told you, then it won't work properly and backup your database and site BEFORE proceeding. There is no undoing this should something go wrong.
in normal cases the data should not get loss, is that what u r saying seven?
and where do one get all those upgrades? (the one u listed) and what is the advantage of upgrading?

No that wasn't what I was saying, but you are correct. All I was doing was giving this person, the correct steps for upgrading phpnuke.
The upgrades come with every version of phpnuke.
Re: the folder called upgrade
The advantages; well, if you are at phpnuke 7.6 there aren't any. Anything after 7.6 is going backwards as far as I am concerned. 7.6 is widely considered the most stable, bug free version of phpnuke and that isn't about to change anytime soon as long as the WYSIWYG Editor in 7.7+ continues to remain as poorly implimented as it is. But thats another story that has been beated to death on this site and many others.
If like MassGeocacher your using an old, outdated and unsupported version (7.1 and down) then it is a must that you upgrade.
The reasons are numerous, not the least of which is there will be no more new patches for these older versions. That means if a new exploit is discovered in nuke that would possibly be in those version, it won't be fixed. (NO you can NOT use a patch from a newer version on an old one). It also means NukeSentinel won't work since it is designed for the NEWER nukes. (it does work on 7.1-7.9 currently). But keep in mind as great as NukeSentinel is, it should not be used as your only line of defense. That's why we have newer versions of nuke and patches for them.
