.htaccess help

I am having an issue with the .htaccess file. I have it uploaded and it is chmod to 777 as directed. I have sentinal all setup the way we need it aand the admins at set in the sentinal program. But when I click the admin section again it pops up a IE login. I try to relog back in with it and it will not except the login. So when I try to access the admin CP it gives me a authorization error page. If I delete the .htaccess then it goes bac to normal. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

First off the chmod should be to 666 not 777 you don't want your security yo be world accessable.

Second what version of Sentinel?

You may need to completely remove sentinel and reinstall it from scratch. Remember the absolute very first thing you should do when installing sentinel is scan for new admins, then set the admin auth access password(s).

Ok, Yeah i read the read-me wrong. I will set tose to 666. Second I am running 2.5.02 and i updated it all the way and then did the scan and then auth. After that I added the .htaccess and chmoded it. Should I start all over.

The problem is the .htaccess file needs to be in place before you upload NukeSentinel. You will need to remove Sentinel and start over.

OK, I have tried this I believe. I put the nst installer and the nsnst.php file back on my site and romoved the tables from the sql. I then uploading the .htaccess and chmod it to 666. and it would not let me acces it again. Then I started over and first installed the the nsnst and then scanned for admins set the PW and then uploaded the .htaccess and chmod it. and same thing. I am sure I am doing this wrong cause I am still new to your php but whats is it I need to try to find out from you.

Ok try this first off drop all of the nsnst tables in your database. Next check to make sure the .htaccess file is empty and there is no data contained within the file then upload it and chmod it to 666 . Make sure you have the nsnst installer folder uploaded in addition to the nsnst.php file. Close out your internet browser clean all your cookies and temp internet files. Next login to your God admin account of your site. Run the nsnst.php file and choose first time install. This should install correctly, then scan for new admins. Once you have scanned for new admins you will need to set their auth passwords. Go into each one that it shows whether protected or not and make sure your htaccess password is what you want it to be. Sometimes NukeSentinel has a habit of making the password something that it isnt. Make sure all admins are protected you will need them all protected before you can turn on .htaccess protection. Then go and make sure you have you .htaccess path correct make sure Auth is set to HTTP Auth. Then you should be able to login to .htaccess be sure to use the name and pass you set as this is case sensitive.

OK, I will try that. Thank you for putting it in somewhat dummy terms for me. One last thing is I never noticed where you set the .htaccess password. and just to make sure what is the path I should type for the .ht file. It is in this location clancfm.com/ja/.htaccess or /local_host/ja/.htaccess. Thank you again.

Your .htaccess path should be
Code: :
/home/your-cpanel-login-name/public_html/ja/.htaccess
It will show you what you .htaccess path should be below where you are suppose to put the path in. To setup your Admin passes once you click scan for new admins it is above tha called Admin Auth List edit each one make sure the pass is correct and they are protected then you can set your .htaccess path.
