Security Question

Just a question.....I know some sites used to provide a list of sites to add to your computers security system as sights to block, altho I haven't seen that done in a while....

So I was wondering, would it be a good idea if sites that used Nuke Sentinal supplied lists of their more serious hacker attempts so others could add them to their IP blocker in their cpanel host?

How about , for example, a block here at NukeCode, called, Suggested IP's to Block....with the more serious hack attempts with the IP's being listed in it...

Am I making sense?

Is that why the Nuke Sentinal protected sites use the scrolling IP block that displays IP's that were blocked?

NC, what is your thoughts on someone blocking IP's to their own site using, for example, the IP's that are being blocked here?

If they hack, they hack........correct?

So if one were to gather these IP's from the more serious sites such as NukeCode, do you think it would be usefull?

How many IP's can a site block in their cpanel of their host?

Was just wondering out loud.......

It was a good idea at one time. In fact we used to have such a block, many ages ago. However all it did was lead to DoS attacks and more hacking attempts. So I took it down, never to return.

Yes true if they hack, they hack. However not every IP that ends up in Sentinel is a hacker. Many are bots, such as google bots or Yahoo Slurp. So banning based on the NukeSentinel banned IP list isn't always a good idea. I have to go in about once a month and dump the whole thing because this site gets crawled so much we can end up with 500 banned bots.

I have been experimenting with a REAL robot.txt file which should prevent most of the bot banning. Once I have all the kinks worked out on it I will release it for all NukeSentinel Users. Right now it isn't a ready for prime time player.

Theoretically it should be an unlimited amount.

Thanks NC....

Interesting read.....Thanks for the input!

My site currently runs a robot txt file.....I'm curious to see the real file your working on.....Mine gets crawled a ton also.....

I'm always asking for help, got to learn this best way I can.....I thought using the forum for discussion would be a different stroke for me..... Wink

Thanks for sharing info.
