Blocks - Having problems with a block? Code doesn't work, get help here.

URL ENCRYPTION + DOWNLOAD PROTECTION

I installed URL Encryption block, for the purpose to hide URL's extensions, say for instance, /modules/downloads/music, because i am worried of people knowing and being able to access my downloads by the URL if known, and thought the best way to gain security for my downloads is using URL encryption, i.e. members passing onto non-members i do not want.

Why will this block only allow a web domain name, i.e. www.nukecode.com, but will not allow say, www.nukecode.com/modules/downloads/music/ to be encrypted?

Is there any way i can get this to work with long URL's?
Or, is there any other facility i can use to protect unauthorised access to my downloads?

It would be appreciated if someone could please advise me.

Thankyou sincerely.

The block is not intended to do what you are expecting it to do.

To protect your downloads I would suggest using leech protection, which can usually be turned on within your hosting panel.

DOWNLOAD PROTECTION

After researching the compatibility with using leech protect, it seems that option has to be lined out, as i have configurations that are anti-leech.

It was also suggested to me to use password protect directories but that would not be suited as you can only set one password, therefore if i was to give all members that one access login details, they could easily give those details to others.

Is there anyway to use password protect directories in connection with members access login details, so that only that member can access the downloads, and is there anyway to disguise the Downloads URL so that when pressed the original download link is not shown, but an alternative disguised one.
I noticed though this does happen whilst shown upon my downloads area, but when the download is pressed, the link then changes to show the downloads actual URL, which is what i would like to prevent happening automatically once i input the download, without having to take extra time using something like URL encryption of some form of link changer.

I want to start inputting downloads into my website, but i do not want any problems with non members gaining access to my downloads, is there any other secure way, you may advise me with please.

Thankyou previously and prior to your much appreciated help.

I have given you the ONLY option there is to protecting your downloads, from being leeched. You said that isn't an option.

So the minimlaist thing you can do is make your downloads module viewable by registered users only, within the administration/modules area

Abilities seize to amaze the unbeliever that it can be done.
I say this not as an insult for you being admin, because this is obviously an amazing useful website, but for others to acknowledge that download protection for security minded people, is a vital worry on bandwidth issues.

you can have security programs such as nuke sentinal, but that is never enough when the downloads are in your directory, and URL encryption is not good enough for /**** extensions.

I am not saying i have not taking precautions will several security scripts, in fact, what i have done, which should be taken into account by other php nuke users, is do not just use nuke sentinal; STRENGTHEN IT.

How? Use Fusion aswell, especially for its advanced UMS (User Management System) facility, and module protection, along with other minor tweaks that can be added.

One thing still missing though: the original URL protection > making sure the original URL is never known.

OK password protect directories and the actual downloads integrated will not work, but is there any developer whom can add within NSN_GR_Downloads_750_103pl2, that when the download is input, the end user; when pressed, will see a different camaflauged link, instead of using something like a service linkbrander.com to put false links leading to the download?

It would be appreciated if you may forward me to an ideal person whom may know, or if there any others individuals out there whom can help me, which of course helps all others nuke users.

Thankyou sincerely.
Tammy

Sentinel, fusion and the like are designed to protect the database from SQL injection. They were NEVER designed for or intended to protect folders and files on your web hosting server. SO, AGAIN AND FOR THE LAST TIME. If you want to protect the downloads from being leached you MUST use leach protection if you want to protect your bandwidth there's 1000's of sites that explain this all over the web.
