CNB Your Account 730 400
Started new Subject didn't see any for this.
First:
I loaded this in the nCo 7.3b and it ruined my 7.3b.
Had to reinstall all. I had a Full Downloaded backup of server files and of database. Could not restore... grrrrrrrr.
Second, Now that I have a fresh load to go with, I was thinking maybe try it again with PHP-nuke 7.3
Than I, looked at Installation instructions, and stopped.
I am not going to ruin another fresh load.
I am very grateful for folks writing Mods, Blocks, themes etc...
But I think these Instructions to install have been the worst I have ever saw. You guys that write this, I can understand your thinking is superior than us average / new users. But, you have no idea how to write instalation instructions, Ihave seen this before in other Mods, blocks, themes, BUT some authors are very good with Installation instructions.
If need be get a new/average user to write your Installation instructions.
We are all not PHP NUKE BRAINS.
OK got that out of me.
Now can someone translate this for me: CNB Your Account 730 400
I will try to translate how I read it in Red.
2. Installation
---------------
Extract archive to temp dir and copy included as noted below:
Unzip file downloaded to a Temporary directory on your PC and copy included as noted below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
README.txt (do not upload, your reading it)
FEATURES.txt (do not upload, a list of current features)
Document.txt (Use these replace cases if you want to use forums profile and reg pages)
Use these cases? .... if??? so this is optional?
html/cnbya.php --------------------------> cnbya.php (Run this file to install,
updage, or destall CNB
Your Account tables)
html/cnbya.php I tried running this in my browser, from inside the server files root directory, and execute it from a ftp program they all failed. So what / where should this go?
html/admin/*/*.* ------------------------> admin/*/*.*
html/admin/ ALL folders and files ---->to---->admin/ ALL in here, ok
html/modules/Your_Account/*.* -----------> modules/Your_Account/*.*
html/modules/Your_Account/ ALL files and Folders --->in to ---. modules/Your_Account *All into here. ok
3. Update From NSN Your Account
-------------------------------
- Delete the code added in mainfile.php file.
Delte the code????? hmmm delete All the characters in the file mainfile.php????????? or delete the code added??? added from where???? should I be monitoring this file for changes in size?? This one took the cake.
- Run this file cnbya.php
Again Run where and how, made no since
4. Modifications Needed
-----------------------
Open mainfile.php in a text editor and goto the end of the file. Just before the
?> add the following code:
include("modules/Your_Account/includes/mainfileend.php");
Ok this instruction was good
5. Notes
--------
On some servers you will get a blank page or a loop after using the forms
what forms?. If this should
happen open the files in a text editor and replace all 'Header("Location: ' with
'Header("Refresh: 0; url=' (without the ' marks) and save the files. Then reupload them.
ok now i am lost, needs that much work done to it, forget it.
NOW remember I am very grateful for people that write the codes, but bad or weak instructions cause enormous forums and tech support.
Sorry to rag out loud.
Remember people what don't work for one person may work for the other person. I am not shooting down the CNB Your Account in the above post, I am more likely mad because i couldn't install it. And I have installed 100's of mods, blocks and themes. Some of them do get under your skin once in awhile.
It {CNB Your Account 7.3} sounds really good, I hope it works for all.
I also liked the nCo Nuke 7.3b on this site very nice look and added features. It is a good download, AS A NEW INSTALL ONLY.
Before you go off keep this in mind everything is free in the Nuke Community hence the term open source. Also as in the case with the CNB_Your_Account allot of these things are written by people who's first language isn't english. The CNB Your Account module is written by a Brazilian I would think his/her first language would probably be Spanish or Portuguese. So a bit of thinking and understanding on your part will be required. Also if you have ever Installed the NSN Your Account module the installation of this one is basically the same. Now since you picked apart the author of the mod allow me to pick apart some of the things you posted for a minute.

This is a seperate set of instructions as allot of block and modules have incase you are upgrading from another version of the block or module you are about to install. CNB took over development of the NSN Your Account Module a few months back, So in some ways this is an upgrade if you have the NSN_Your Account. It's telling people to remove the code that was added to the mainfile.php during the install of NSN Your Account.
Personally I think you are being overly critical, relax think and read and in all honesty this isn't the site to be complaining about the module on. We are just a resource site. The makers of the mod site is http://dev.phpnuke.org.br/ keep in mind the site is in Spanish.
Im not trying to make you look or feel bed.... My mission in life is to make people think. I hope I have done that for you... Have a nice day
Agreed I wasn't trying to rag on anyone or anyones site.
And; as I stated I greatly appreciate these free source code's and writers and this site.
I know the original site was in spanish or I would have wrote it there, LOL.
I admit I was ticked when I wrote it.
But that was by no means, clear instructions. Maybe for someone that has been in PHP for awhile. And I did run it in my browser mydomain/etc..
Besides asking for instructions (the wrong way) My point is there would be, alot less tech support / forum inquires, if instructions are spelled out in detail. I have seen several composers do excellent work and have awesome installation instructions.
Thanks for the reply, I was just looking for clear instructions for install, but asked in the wrong way. But, I think I will wait a few days and cool down, been on this PC 24/7. By then I see 7.4 modified might be out?
Thanks for your time.

Oh I forgot, I did learn it is wiser to have a second TEST install url /database, with a sub-domain. this is working out great, I am testing most modules, blocks, add-ons etc... into a seperate site, then I know if it works or not to add to my real site. I advise all to do this, I learned the hard way
.
Testing on my real site,,, LOL
If anyone needs something tested, looks like I am becoming a tester, trying to get my own going good. If you guys need testers let me know...
LOL Kinda like a newbie tester,,, hahaha But I think I have downloaded pretty much all the MODs, blocks, themes that there is out there.... Mad Scientist at work....
LOL.. While I don't disagree with you that sometime instructions are a bit unclear and sometimes even impossible to follow, we as people who speak fluent english, which by the way is one of the if noe the hardest language to learn. Allot of people do not, nut they do try their very best to write the instructions so the english speaking members of the community can use the things they as programmers have made. Think about this suppose for one second you went to brazil and didn't speak a word of spanish. Im sure we would all be greatful to find someone who spoke the broken english these people are writing the instructions with. I know it's not the same thing but it isn't that different either. You'll have to excuse my sister she's a bit overworked right now. lol
